17 Months

I know that there has been a  lack of updates, but I'll try to get better. Here is Cohen's 17 month update.

I'm not sure of his official height and weight, but we'll find out when we go to his appointment next month.

Cohen has been a stinker lately. He is very smart, independent, yet needy, and stubborn! He understands simple commands and will do what you ask, if he wants to! Our biggest struggle with him for the past week is getting him in his car seat. He went through this a couple months ago, but it got better. Anyway, he will kick, scream and twist his body. We have tried so many tactics and nothing has really worked yet. I think he just wants to be outside and not sit in traffic. I hear ya, buddy! For the most part he is really good in the car once we get him in his seat, except when he wants his milk. All we'll hear from the back seat is, "Milk, milk, milk......milk.....milk, milk...." ALL THE WAY HOME. And sometimes we just don't have any!

Cohen is like a little puppy when it comes to food. When we sit down with food he comes running over, saying, "bite?" This is how we trick him to eating his dinner sometimes. (hoping this is just a phase)

He is great at repeating what we say and learning new words everyday! He can say the following when he sees it: avocado, bunny, potty, bubble, car, apple, ball, bus, puppy, bird, duck

He can identify and say the following characters: elmo, big bird, cookie (monster), Ernie, (mickey) mouse

He can point to his ears, mouth, eyes, belly and nose.

He can make animal sounds when you say the name of the animal including: lion, cow, and bear, bird

He loves to play with balls, cars, and his trains. Today when we got to daycare he was wearing a firefighter hat and holding a purse and a baby. :) Daddy didn't want to take a picture! It was so cute though!

He loves to be outside playing at the playground or just walking around...throwing a ball.

While we aren't focusing on potty training yet, we did buy him one since he kept saying, "potty" every time we went in the bathroom. Anyway, I usually put him on it before he takes a bath, just to get him used to it. Well, this morning he was grunting so we knew he had to go to the potty. I ran him in there, quickly put him on the potty and he pooped one itsy bitsy little poopie. We were ecstatic..until he tried to pick it up! I let out a little scream and probably scared him! He didn't grab it, thankfully! Anyway, I'm hoping that that will help him understand the concept a little more, but we'll just take our time and see!

He likes to count..but still only really says  2 and 4!

He usually goes to bed around 7:30-8 and wakes up between 6-7. He usually takes a 2-3 nap at daycare.

He loves fruits and vegetables, which is great! The thing we struggle with most in regards to food is getting him to try new things, which I guess is probably typical at his age.

He can spell...hahaha...The first word that he spelled was "bra"

I finally took him on a train ride at the mall (we usually just wave to it) because it's $6! Sheesh, but he loved it...

 In the train!

This past weekend he became obsessed with "mouse"! I finally found Mickey in our closet and pulled it out for him. I had no idea how much he would love him. Dan and I were definitely proud! :)

He carried Mickey everywhere and loved playing with him and cuddling with him!

Watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

Playing with Mickey and a mickey mouse snow globe. He made the connection that the mouse was in there.

Sat Mickey right on the snow globe. Too funny!

He didn't like Donald as much as Mickey, but still gave him a high five.

We went to a regional park last weekend to play at the playground. Well Cohen was way more interested in the basketball courts! We didn't bring a basketball with us so we had to play with Cohen's little blue toy ball, but he loved it!

He was so hot and sweaty....he was running so much!

Cohen learned how to take pictures on our camera! Haha

Today he found a penny in our car. He held on to it all the way up to our apartment so he could put it in his puppy bank that he got from Great Aunt Susie for his birthday. When you put a coin in it the puppy barks. He thinks its pretty funny.

Cohen likes to climb on his table and then jump off into our arms. I don't like this activity, but it's hard to get him to stop. We'll I can stop, but he won't. Though he hasn't yet, I'm pretty sure he would still jump off the edge of the table even if no one is there.  Ahh! So I guess I have no choice but to play along for a little while until I flip the table over! Anyway, so he'll stand on the edge and say, "two"...he's counting (1,2, 3, jump), but remember he doesn't say 1. :)

What a little monkey!

And some recent videos...

Kicking a ball at the park

Doin' a little dancin...check out that fancy footwork!

Laughing with Daddy after bath time!

There are probably things I missed, but I did my best!

Love,
Katie

  1. I wish we could have a play-date! I think Cohen and Mia might actually interact a little more than they did at Christmas.
